Buttock Lift

Time, weight loss and gravity all work against the natural youthful plump and full appearance of the buttock. A Buttock Lift, or Buttock Augmentation, reshapes the contour of the buttock using your own natural tissue.

How is Buttock Lift surgery performed?

Whether it is a Brazilian Butt Lift or regular Butt Lift, this procedure typically uses a combination of surgical techniques. This includes Liposuction, Fat Grafting and sometimes direct elevation of the buttock tissues. Implants are generally not used for this procedure.

Traditional Butt Lift surgery is when we make incisions that run along your backside at the top of the buttock and cut out loose skin, and literally elevate or lift the buttock up over this loose skin and fat. We often incorporate your natural padding to provide extra fullness in the top part of the lifted buttock.

Is a Butt Lift right for me?

Candidates for Butt Lift surgery are typically people who have had some sort of massive weight loss in the past. This could be after gastric bypass surgery or a sleeve gastrectomy. After losing 60 or more pounds, the sagging skin and deflated buttock cannot simply be plumped with fat injected into the buttock.

Instead we need to redrape the skin and trim the excess while volumizing and lifting the sagging buttock tissue. There is a resulting scar at the top of the buttock where we trim the extra skin. Recovery after this surgery is about 2-3 weeks before engaging in light activities and 6-8 weeks before working out.

The alternative to this procedure is a Brazilian Butt Lift, which is described below.

What is a Brazilian Butt Lift?

The plastic surgery procedure with the biggest uptick in interest recently is the Brazilian Butt Lift. What exactly is a Brazilian Butt Lift? This procedure is also known as Buttock Augmentation with fat grafting. Brazilian Butt Lift saw the biggest increase in popularity with a 19% jump from 2017 to 2018, according to The American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

This buttock enhancement procedure takes unwanted fat from other areas of your body using Liposuction and deposits it in areas such as the hips and buttocks. The main goal is to enhance the volume of the buttocks and minimize a patient’s waistline to create a more “hourglass” look.

With celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Nicki Minaj and J.Lo embracing their curves and inspiring others to do the same, it’s easy to understand why this procedure has become so popular. A Brazilian Butt Lift deepens the valleys and rounds out the fullness in our curves, combining two procedures in order to achieve that balance.

How is a Brazilian Butt Lift performed?

At Tannan Plastic Surgery, the Brazilian Butt Lift is performed under general anesthesia in our certified operating room with our all-woman team. The first part of The BBL is Liposuction. Typically, Liposuction is performed in areas above and around the buttock including the belly, the back, the upper hips and thighs.

To make the buttocks look bigger, we make the waistline look smaller by removing unwanted fat. Then we filter and purify the fat, preparing it for injection into the buttock to volumize it naturally. We then use this removed fat for injection in the buttocks to create contour and fullness, in the back and along the sides.

Is a Brazilian Butt Lift safe?

A Brazilian Butt Lift is typically a safe procedure when performed by a board certified plastic surgeon. However, the results can be less than desirable when performed by unqualified people in unsafe settings. If this is a surgery you are considering, then we strongly recommend you see a board certified plastic surgeon to go over the potential risks in a very real and honest way.

Doctor Shruti Tannan, a female Board Certified plastic surgeon, will counsel you on creating beautiful outcomes from Butt Lift surgery while maintaining safety at the same time. Sometimes this means we may not immediately get to the size you had in mind. She will advise you on what is realistic and safe, as well as how we can enhance the buttock non-surgically down the road if necessary.

As with all plastic surgery procedures, there is no “one size fits all” Brazilian Butt Lift. We see each patient and give them our professional recommendation tailored specifically to your unique needs. During your consultation, we can discuss if you are a good candidate for a Butt Lift or other nonsurgical options to volumize the buttocks.
